Treasured Journeys. Central Asian Rugs, Textiles and Jewelry from the Jason Deighton-Sarzetakis and Yiannis Sarzetakis Collection

The Corfu Museum of Asian Art was pleased to organize the temporary exhibition entitled ‘Treasured Journeys. Central Asian Rugs, Textiles and Jewelry from the Jason Deighton-Sarzetakis and Yiannis Sarzetakis collection’, which was open to the public from the 1st of October 2013. The exhibition was organized in collaboration with the collector Yiannis Sarzetakis. Curator was Despina Zernioti, Director of the Corfu Museum of Asian Art.

For the first time in Greece the Museum introduced to the public the impressive nomadic art of Central Asia and its highly topical aesthetic that focuses on simple and unpretentious. Unique rugs originally made by Baluch and Turkmen nomads, silk ikats from Uzbekistan, as well as gold and silver jewelry with precious stones from Samarkand and Bukhara are on display. The exhibits belong to the Sarzetakis collection, which was formed in situ, and donated to the Museum in 2011. Its permanent exhibition will be held in the near future.
